What’s up Wednesday

We survived the week at home. We didn’t get as much done as we had hoped but that is what happens when you have a toddler. But we did get our raised beds ready for seeds and decided to try our hand at growing corn again so we ripped the sod off a section behind the beds since corn prefers firmer ground and the beds are a mix of potting soil and garden soil so they would be too loose for corn.

We had a good Easter, Kat got dressed up and did an indoor egg hunt. Mommy was an idiot and put the jelly beans in the plastic eggs and she figured out how to open them so they went everywhere. And she has started to get used to things on her face like sunglasses so hopefully hats will be next. We’ve been practicing.

I got onion and garlic planted Monday and ran out of garlic cloves since you want to use the biggest ones out of the heads so I picked more up Tuesday after work and planted those too. The rest is starting from seed since I got a late start thanks to the roof situation. But with bigger beds, I’m looking at higher yields. I can’t wait till I get to make some homemade salsa.

Billy also convinced me to pick up some rhubarb starts so next year I’ll look into making homemade rhubarb strawberry pies.

Work is now making it mandatory for us to wear masks and my awesome mother is making us some so I don’t have to wear those uncomfortable surgical masks. I seriously commend those in the medical field who have to wear those for 12 or more hours a day. Honestly, they deserve our respect and kindness on a normal day but during this pandemic, they deserve it even more. So a shout out to those who are the frontlines during all of this, you are amazing!

I have made a new addition to my book collection and I have an online acquaintance to thank for sending me a copy since the library is closed till further notice. The book I mention is The Tightwad Gazette, I’ve read both of them when I borrowed them from the library and my muffin recipes are based on her basic formula.

I recently started following an awesome family on youtube, it’s mostly the husband, the wife also has her channel but they both run bearindependent.com. I recently became a patron on Patreon for Bear Independent and received not the one sticker I was promised but two! One was the bear logo and the other was a hilarious unicorn that I placed on my laptop. I ordered the Tactical Chicken sticker which will be joining the unicorn when it arrives.

Sunday: Red Beans and Rice that we were supposed to have earlier this month.
