This week has been a whirlwind! Nasty cloudy weather that threatened rain but never materialized. My tomato sprouts died, except 1 and we found out a rabbit has been eating all my carrots. He’s destined to be stew in the near future.
So once I have a fence erected I shouldn’t have any problems with rabbits or cats. If this doesn’t work I will resort to extreme measures of pest control. The girls have been super happy about being able to access fresh grass this spring and our yard looks healthier where they’ve been. I took advantage of this and placed them over a bare spot we have not been able to get anything to grow, it’s just small enough that the coop covered it and still had grass in the back half. They tilled/scratched up a good portion which we hope will sprout some grass.
Despite Bugs Bunny enjoying my garden, it’s doing well. Only one tomato sprout survived the deluge we had on Monday but I think I have a volunteer tomato in the zucchini bed that I will probably transfer to the tomato bed once I’ve confirmed that it’s a tomato.
My zucchini and cucumbers are getting nice and big which mean it is time to trellis them. This year I’m going to use some goat panel fencing we got for free and some t-posts.
I also demolished a tree stump that we’ve been fighting for years, luckily most of it had died and now I won’t trip over it when trying to get to the garden or carry Kat into the backyard. And I’m working on laying out ground cloth around the gardens so I can put down mulch and keep weeds out of the garden beds, it was in my way.
My strawberries have produced more this year than I’ve ever seen them do and it has me super excited and I can’t wait to harvest them and have Kat try a fresh one rather than the ones we get at the store.
This week’s menu;
Today: Leftovers, hopefully. We had Joey for a few days so he might have eaten all of the leftovers.
Thursday: TBD it’s shopping day so I may just grab a pizza.
Friday: Pesto Chicken Pasta
Saturday: Sloppy Joes and Fries
Sunday: Sandwiches and Chips, a simple meal that doesn’t involve a lot of cooking since I expect to be busy in the yard.
Monday: Spinach Salad, this usually is spinach, some other green, some tomatoes, and some other seasonal veg.
Tuesday: Taco Salad
