We are drowning in cucumbers! And stupid me didn’t stock up on canning spices over the winter and now everyone is out of dill seed, Billy was a saint and ordered some online but it’ll be a couple of weeks before they get here. So it looks like I’ll be able to get those pictures I missed for the bread and butter pickles after all. I have enough to make both though, especially now that a coworker is gonna give me some dill seed that his wife grew last year! A big thanks to my buddy David and his wife, they’re getting some pickles as payment.
I finally got the compost out of the tumblers and cleaned out the chicken coop again. I had to wait for a day Billy wasn’t working on his truck to help me lift the tumblers since I’m short and they were pretty heavy. After that was all done I ‘side-dressed’ the vegetables with the compost and a little bit went to the strawberries and blueberries. Then a couple of days later it rained and mother nature took care of watering the compost in for me. The tomatoes love it!
Sadly it looks like my corn is a bust this year. All the rain has made the ears mold on the stalk. I’ll have to wait and see if the others mature without molding. The ants aren’t helping either.
Kat got to ‘play’ in the garden this week too. Mommy forgot to spray her down with bug repellent and she’s now got so many mosquito bites on her legs they almost look like chickenpox. Thank goodness for Benadryl and itch cream, I used that cream like a lotion on her poor little legs. After her bath, she got more cream, and we did an oatmeal bath as my momma did for my chickenpox over two decades ago, I came away with only one scar.
And afterward, she decided to help mommy blog and add the photos, she promptly passed out after that of course before bath and milk.
