Thank goodness for the rain! I haven’t had to water the garden in close to a week. But when I do need to water the garden we finally have an outside hookup for the hose! I did a happy dance when it passed the pressure test.
My garden is actually doing great despite the heat. I’m afraid that the zucchini may be a bust since I didn’t trellis them this time and I’ve come to terms that pole beans are meant more for dry beans cause they get fat so fast. I’m gonna do bush beans next year and then maybe I’ll have actual green beans for canning. I have almost enough cucumbers to make some pickles on my next day off. I hope I can get at least 2 or 3 good zucchini so I can make some relish, if it comes down to it I’ll get some from the farmers market and support a local small farm.
I’ve picked one more since this photo was taken and have three more ready on the vine. Pickles are in my future.
Tuesday Kat decided I needed to have a good cry. She was standing on the couch (we actually discourage this) and I was doing the dishes when I heard her start ‘barking’, she has recently learned that particular animal sound. When I popped my head into the living room she was staring and a picture of our late dog Lily, I asked her ‘are you barking at Lily?’ She turned and looked at me said ‘puppy!’ and continued barking. Naturally, I had a little moment because Lily absolutely adored her and to think she may have a small blurry memory of a big yellow thing giving her kisses and barking at the door.
We miss our big loveable girl and maybe in a way Kat does too. This was taken a few days after Kat came home.
